On 2nd October a practical landscape design lab session will be coordinated by Studio Arcoplan with the collaboration of Raffaello Cossu, Professor of the University of Padova and Stefanos Antoniadis, research fellow at the University of Padova.
The laboratory will be preceded by an introductory lecture on the topic. The lab session will give participants the opportunity to share their views with colleagues and experts within their working groups on a real case study.
The participants will elaborate a concept for the valorisation and/or requalification of the plant proposed and will be invited to illustrate the final project at the end of the laboratory. The results will be published in a special issue on Waste Architecture of Detritus journal and on a special section of the website.
Two case studies, selected by the Scientific Committee among the numerous proposals received, will be evaluated and assessed during the planning and design workshop.
The selected proposers will present the case studies to participants, illustrating the specific details of the plant, any issues that need solving, and basic requirements or preferences to allow the planning and design team to draw up the best solution in terms of site requalification or functional reuse.
The Workshop on Waste Architecture (Oral session and design lab) is a Sardinia 2019 Parallel Event and registration is free for all Symposium delegates.
Delegates wishing to take part in the Waste Architecture activities only are requested to register by filling the online form.

THE SERDIANA LANDFILL / ECOSERDIANA SPA
The Serdiana landfill, managed by the company Ecoserdiana SpA, is a non-hazardous special waste landfill located in the Municipality of Cagliari, Italy. The area features an undulating morphology due to the alternating presence of flat areas and hills. The physical location of the landfill was identified by the Municipal Authorities in Serdiana due to the presence on site of a sandstone quarry. The landfill is comprised of 6 modules that have developed over time, only one of which is currently operational, and occupies a total surface area of approx. 10 hectares. The operative module (n. 6 on the map) has a raised banking and leans against two decommissioned landfill modules for non-hazardous special wastes and Municipal solid wastes. Modules 1, 2, 3 and 4 are currently in the post-operational phase. The proposing body has shown interest in undertaking environmental requalification and landscaping of the area not limited to greening of the site, but also providing for re-use of the same.[READ MORE ...]
LANDFILL FOR HAZARDOUS AND NON-HAZARDOUS SPECIAL WASTES / ECOFER AMBIENTE SRL
Ecofer Ambiente Srl manages a sanitary landfill authorised for conferment of hazardous and non-hazardous special wastes. The landfill was designed at the start of the year 2003 in accordance with criteria established by Legislative Decree 36/2003 relating to hazardous waste landfills, subsequently enhanced by the regulations contained in the authorization permits. The landfill accepts solely non-hazardous wastes originating from the metal recovery sector (end-of-life vehicles and other metallic wastes). Wastes conferred are therefore only CER 19.10.04 and 19.10.06 (light-fluff and other fractions). These residues are made up largely of polymer/plastic materials and do not therefore present any of the issues associated with putrescible materials: extremely low organic content, scarce emission of noxious odours, absence of animal infestation.[READ MORE ...]
