Complex systems, used in both solid and liquid waste management and treatment, might result not always affordable, particularly due to high costs and high technology needed. The interest for developing alternative natural based solutions inspired by nature is growing worldwide. The most important challenge is to realize systems with equivalent performances but lower costs.
